Ohhhh mercy.

Greetings from Alex's apartment where I'm shamelessly mooching off his Internet, because Comcast turned off mine two weeks ago. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.......horrible, horrible life choices. Blogging. Alex is "slightly" drunk at the moment and urging me to hit you up for monies to get my Internet back. I say that's absurd. We've been too busy to write recently; you don't owe us anything. I mean, who do we think we are? Now he's repeatedly shouting, "NO! THEY'RE GOING TO HATE ME!" Accurate. But better they hate you than me, sir.

ANYWAY! Just dropping a quick note to say that the first manuscript of our book is due next Monday, so we're in our last week of intense writing. QUICK TURNAROUND, RIGHT? Yeah. WELL. That's what you get when you hire McBlogger and...Bloggy-Blog, or whatever we're calling Chris these days, to write for you. That and an uncomfortable amount of abortion, suicide, and Kendall Jackson chardonnay jokes.

OK. Off to hustle and get this shit done. Thanks for hanging in there until next week! You're saints.

I cant believe you would ask people to donate when you never blog. And when you do blog, you only blog about how you don't have time to blog.

Leo said...

The only reason you posted that story was so you could hint at blog donations without asking for them directly.

you got this, Meg!

YOU ARE KILLING ME. I'm trying to procrastinate my grad school apps and I need funny stories and YOU WON'T GIVE ME ANY.

You know whats more important than a blog? YOUR BOOK! Your loyal readers will understand - good luck and I know I cant wait to read as above commenter Hannah puts it, the most influential book of 2011!

Catherine said...

I love your blog, and I think you're hysterical. . .but I have to agree with Leo and Anonymous before Leo.

That was kind of an obvious and lame not-so-roundabout way of asking for money.

A lot of us are having hard times right now, and I'm guessing none of the rest of us have thousands of people to ask for money.

Party foul.

Already excited for the 2b recap of Jersey Shore in Italy. Good luck writing Meg and TC!

I agree the quality of the posts have fallen a little since Meg got fired. but let's be honest - you need to be in a busy, ridiculous, annoying environment (AKA: work) to get REALLY good material to over exaggerate into comedy... rather than Ren Fest and Evie stories.

regardless, Meg is still funny as shit. and I still read.

i'm not going anywhere any time soon. i still check the blog every day, hoping for a new post. and i will buy your book as soon as it's out. can't wait.

This whole money debate is out of control. If you don't want to donate - DON'T! No one will ever know. But if you aren't going to donate then DON'T be the asshole that gets personally offended about the fact that the OPTION to donate exists...and that that OPTION is occasionally mentioned in the FREE blog you come here to be ENTERTAINED by. So no, IT is not low or lame YOU are low, lame and probably untalented.

If Meg was on the street corner playing her bass guitar in hopes of earning some spare change you wouldn't stop to tell her you were keeping your quarter because bass guitars are lame you would just keep walking right on by. Why is it any different here?

Anonymous said...

BLOG WARZ; I HATE EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Long Time Reader said...

all you people who say "it's low" are fuckheads. i bet everyone at work hates you.

Anonymous said...

If you're on the street corner playing your guitar, bass or otherwise, and you have an open guitar case, it's clear that you're asking for money. I can respect that.

What I can't respect is having your open guitar case behind a pillar and saying, "Oh, hey, you might want to GO CHECK BEHIND THE PILLAR, but not because I want you to, but because my friend said I should ask you to, and I can't believe he'd even say that!"

See the difference?

If you want to ask for donations, ask for them. Don't frame it in a super-lame blog post meant to look like you'd NEVER ask for them but oh, my friend says I should!

Anonymous said...

Agreed with anonymous at 1:33. There's nothing wrong with openly asking for money, but it's kind of disrespectful to convince readers to do it in a sneaky "Oh, this wasn't my idea, I swear!" kind of way.

Anonymous said...

Meg: I wish I could donate, to annoy these angry people more than anything, but I too am broke and have been cut off by my phone comapany. So just wanted to say, I feel your pain. Keep with the writing, I can't wait for your book AND can't wait til you're both back!x

Anonymous said...

I'd be more apt to donate if I wasn't often seeing tweets and posts about like... you watching cable all day or wasting money on flashlight hat or whatever that was.

Anonymous said...

I read this post to my boyfriend, hoping for another point of view, thinking maybe I thought it was more underhanded than it actually was.

His response was: "She needs to get a job."

So it's not just me. Sad.

Anonymous said...

I've never commented before, but I must say I am a long time fan of the blog. Meg, you are an awesome writer, wish there were most posts to get me through the boring work day!

But I must agree with some of the comments that people on here have made--Meg sure does a lot of complaining for having a book deal and hundreds of people who can't wait to read whatever she writes next. I'm sure that some of it is for the sake of humor/the blog, but if I were you, Meg,I would be pretty freaking psyched about my situation.

Also, people who get so defensive on these comments kind of perplex me. Rarely do I think anyone says anything really mean on here (with a few exceptions, and that's not cool). But I think it is totally valid to expect blog posts on a regular basis, and just generally have opinions about what is being written (or lack thereof). Especially when loyal readers have consistently voted for, donated to, and spread the word about Meg.

Overall, I will always be a fan and I'm sure the book will be AWESOME, but I have to agree with some of the other commenters on here.

Anonymous said...

Anybody think that maybe Meg saying "it's Alex, not me" is possibly sarcasm? Oh, no way, because Meg is never sarcastic.

Anonymous said...

ok seriously you all need to calm the fuck down! first you all complain about no posts, now you're complaining about the content of the posts, just grow up! it's a free blog that she does for fun, she has a tight deadline for a book that you know you're all excited for, so back the fuck off and let her do her business

Anonymous said...

Oh, Anonymous at 6:54. I, for one, couldn't care less about the book. They're handing book deals out like candy these days.

The fact of the matter is, yeah, we're going to complain if we've gotten crappy updates and she WANTS US TO PAY HER FOR THEM. She's asking for donations so she can continue to sit around doing nothing (with the exception of this book) and buying unnecessary crap.

Steph said...

wah wah wah. wah wah wah.

thats what i got out of all these comments. lighten up people!

Anonymous said...

OK, steph.

Why don't YOU pay her cable bill?

Anonymous said...

Jesus christ...this post wasn't seriously asking for money...it was telling a funny anecdote about Meg and one of her friends. Not to mention that its been a common and FUNNY theme of this blog that Meg doesn't have a lot of money (as I doubt most of us reading this have as we're all young adults living in this shitty economy)Why is everybody flipping out about this? When I initially read it I thought nothing of it, then I read everybody's comments and I don't get it....Whatever this blog is awesome and I refuse to ever be a hater on it.

Anonymous said...

Anonymous at 8:38, I might agree with your analysis except for one thing.

The anecdote wasn't funny. Not even a little.

Anonymous said...

After two years of reading I am deleting this blog from my favorites bar because it's never updated and when it is the content just aint funny. Agree with everyone who said it's been in decline since Meg got fired.

Unknown said...

Seriously people, I don't blame her. What would you rather be doing, a free blog or actually trying to write what will be a lucrative book? Thank you for all the laughs, can't wait for the book!

Anonymous said...

Come on, "Mike"! Chime in!

Anonymous said...

dude if i were meg i'd shut this thing down after all this whining

Anonymous said...

I'm not really sure that people understand what having a book deal means. Normally first time writers get an small advance. in this case two writers have to split it. i bet they each got $200-300 at most. Then, once the book starts selling, they are lucky if they earn $1 per book. For meg and chris to live off of this book for a year without getting their utilities shut off they would have to sell 50,000 copies. Everyone isnt automatically a John Grisham. The average new book in the US sells 500 copies. Which means this HUGE book deal will earn meg and chris $250 a piece. Could you live off of $250?? I don't think so. But, if the first book is successful it could lead to additional books, which in the long term could add up to something. So just give them a break for now and let them take some time off from the blog to finish the book without throwing a tantrum.

Anonymous said...

^Anon 5:11, I've been thinking the same thing this whole time. Everyone keeps thinking they shouldn't be in need of any more money because of this book deal, but they probably won't make that big of a profit from it.

Anonymous said...

I think a lot of people are missing the point here.

No, you can't live off book advances. Yes, you should take time off to write a book if you have a deal.

But don't pretend to be all cute while pretending you're not asking for money when you are.

NUT UP and just say, "Hey, having a hard time. Would you be willing to donate?"

just as meg is free to post (or not, as the case is lately) whenever she likes, readers have every right to blast meg if they feel so inclined. i don't fault meg for not posting as she seems to have a lot happening right now(which is not to say that a writer of a higher calibre and who was more motivated could write a book AND post on the blog which got her the book deal in the first place). but i also don't fault the readers who are letting her know they'd like her to do her blogging job better.

When she asks outright for money, you criticize her. When she gets donations, then buys Hat, you criticize her for spending her donations wrong. When she passively asks for money, you criticize her again! Meg, I feel for you darlin. The same shit happens when I beg my family for money. Lucky for me, Its just my mom (and grandma, and sisters) and not the entire internet freaking out about how much money I make/need/spend.

If you feel like helping a sista out, do so! If you have a problem with her posts, there are plenty of other free blogs on the www. I think mostly everyone just posts heated comments to make their boring-ass lives feel more entertaining though.

Anyway, looking SOO forward to the book. I adore You crazy kids!

Ok let's be honest here, you haven't really written a real post in over 2 weeks. That's fine, it's your blog and you can post as little or as much as your want. But when you rely on fans to buy merchandise or "donate," and having fans clearly got you this book deal, it's a little like a slap in the face to underhandedly hint at donations and then barely post.

That was just my two cents, and I'm still going to read your blog, just wanted to give my opinion!

Anonymous said...

Meg, For some reason, I picture Diane McBlogger saying this http://twitter.com/#!/suburbanmomsays/status/31611989545455616
...accurate prediction or no?

Cara said...

I think there is a misunderstanding here. Donations are not "paying for posts," or in any way related to what we get out of it in return. In fact, the very definition of a donation is that it is the OPPOSITE of paying FOR something you get in return. That would be called "buying something." Thus, if you donate with the expectation that you will get something in return (i.e. more blog posts), you are an idiot who doesn't understand different types of basic monetary transactions. We donate because we love Meg and are concerned about her, not because we want more blog posts. Donating and regularity of posts are two completely separate issues. Bitch about one or the other (if you wish, though I think its unproductive), but STOP acting like they are one and the same thing.

this blog just makes me sad now.

Let's be strategic about this. The people who read this blog every day are the ones most likely to pre-order the new book and recommend it to friends. Neglecting the blog to write the book means losing some of the core audience and potential sales. I don't want to see that happen to Meg or TC, so please come back and post.

Anonymous said...

Yea I think it is just straight up rude at this point. And if the comments made Meg "give up on the blog" then she should seriously get thicker skin. The vast majority of what is being said isn't mean at all, it is just people who enjoy this blog being disappointed and speaking the truth (and rightfully so). If I were her I would have read these and felt really bad by now, and at the very least offered a sincere apology (I don't count a quick line of "sorry be back next week"--which was like 2 or 3 weeks ago). And as for the off base and mean comments, which are few and far between, just ignore them and get over it!

Anonymous said...

If I ever stop reading this blog, it will be because half the people who comment are so fucking annoying.

I like the blog, I read it all the time when there are posts, but it does not actually affect my emotional well-being one way or the other if there isn't a post. Neither does the existence or non-existence of a donate button, or what Meg may or may not have meant by any given post.

Know why? Because I have an amazing ability to discern between things that are my real life and things that are funny to read on the internet if they happen to exist.

Seriously, for a reality check on how ridiculous you sound, go find someone in the real world who doesn't read the blog. Then explain to them why you are so upset. If they look confused because you're whining that some free blog you read hasn't posted in a while and on top of that the writer has the gall to have a donate button (but isn't forcing you to donate or pay for content), it's because they're sensible and you're an idiot.

This is OUR blog now! Since the comments are all there are to read...

My favorite comments are the "friends" of Meg who blow their shit when anonymous people post "get a job" "post please" "you suck for not posting" and they get seriously riled up about it. And their main point is "CALM DOWN! THIS IS A FREE BLOG! BLAH BLAH" Um, pot, kettle. You ma'ams are the one riled up. Not us. We are just pointing out the truth.

Anyhow... you're welcome for this "post" for all to read.

No donations necessary.

Anonymous said...

I'm pretty sure that posting comments is a fairly normal thing to do on a blog. The people who are like "WOA CALM DOWN" or "IT'S JUST A BLOG, GET A LIFE!" need to chill out because commenting your thoughts is pretty standard. So is writing posts, but we're not seeing any of that now are we?
