Worst of Netflix: Dirty Love

[FYI: Meg is horribly sick. You'll get your Jersey Shore recap and Ren Fest recap and Queer Amy and all the other stuff she owes you next week. I talked to her night before last and she sounded like shit and had no time for my jokes about fingerblasting, so I'm going to take that as a sign that she's not faking. But for the record, Larry Hagman is alive.]

It’s interesting how broad the term “movie” really is. Gone with the Wind, The Queen, and Dirty Love are all movies. The first gives us sweeping drama, beautiful sets, and exquisite costuming, all of which work together to evoke a world gone by; the second contains talented actors giving bold, imaginative performances that create memorable characters, and the third was written by Jenny McCarthy.

Photobucket

I am exactly the right age to remember Jenny McCarthy. I was in seventh grade when her “sketch” “comedy” “show” was on the air, and so I still think of her as an MTV actress first and “the autism lady” second. Thank God something distracted her; Western free-market democracy couldn’t have handled another written-by-and-starring-Jenny-McCarthy sledgehammer to the throat. Al-Qaeda briefly used clips from this movie in their training videos, but were forced to stop when the terrorists-to-be just shrugged and said, “Why blow anything up? Their whole civilization should be collapsing in, say, 45 minutes? We can just take the bus over afterwards.” Plotless, classless, and witless, Dirty Love is the most boring time you’ll ever spend being offended.

I’m tempted to just type up my notes and let you draw your own conclusions. Blogging certainly does open new frontiers; I never thought I’d look over my own notes and see the phrases “Is Carmen Electra the tranny or the ‘black girl?’ Brad Pitt’s throbbing cock. She shat on the bed. Why is he lunging like that?” so chalk one up for experience and let’s get started.

If you can believe it, the movie opens with a flashback and a voiceover. Rebecca (Jenny McCarthy) and some generic “hot” guy are at Coney Island or the Jersey shore or something. There’s sand, soft serve ice cream, and a lot of smiling at each other. The voiceover opens with the phrase “Love is so great…” and rattles on in the same vein. There’s a little unintentional humor when she says that falling in love made her feel as if “the butterflies in her belly dusted off their cobwebs and started fluttering again.” Does she know what happens to butterflies that land in spiderwebs?

We cut to Rebecca on a Hollywood street, screaming “Oh my GOD!” seven times and making sobbing noises. She sounds like a wildebeest in rut, but she’s supposed to be merely a weeping woman. She says “funny” thinks to passersby, including transsexual prostitutes, a biker and a bum, whose cigarette she steals. We flash back to earlier that day, when she arrived home from her job as a photographer (it has Plot Significance! REMEMBER THE CAMERAS) to find her boyfriend slamming some random broad. We only see her lower legs, pressed against Generic “Hot” Guy’s chest as he rubs his own nipple, fixes his hair, notices Rebecca, greets her awkwardly, and comes. It’s the most convincing acting in the whole movie.

What do you do when you’re upset and need a friendly ear and a shoulder to cry on? Rebecca goes to her psychic, a cameo by either a pre-D-list Kathy Griffin or an unconvincing Kathy Griffin impersonator. She does a bad impression of her own trademark rapid-fire sarcasm, spouting some “oooh, mystical” horseshit about love and quest and darkest before the dawn, ending with a nail-through-the-forehead-subtle piece of foreshadowing: Rebecca is to look for a WHITE PONY, which she will ride off into the sunset. Chekov said of playwriting that if the author places a gun on stage in the third act, it must go off by the third. McCarthy has chosen a water cannon full of chocolate laxative, rolled front and center with a knowing wink, but it’s the same idea. Sort of.

There’s a kind of muddled scene where she calls a friend and they decide to go shopping, while two other friends go to G”H”G’s house to get Rebecca’s cameras. (I told you they were important.) The friend that goes shopping with her looks like a clearance-aisle sex doll, and she delivers all her lines in a jerky, perplexed baby-doll voice that is presumably supposed to evoke Marilyn Monroe but really just makes us think she doesn’t speak English and has leaned all her lines phonetically, with no idea of their meaning. They have an unsettling conversation about how, after this morning’s events, even BRAD PITT’S THROBBING COCK wouldn’t interest her in sex. Aren’t we beyond Brad Pitt as the default attractive man? He’s married to that lunatic who keeps adopting everything in sight: children, causes, cities, rhesus monkeys… Can’t someone else’s cock throb?

Photobucket

Let’s just say for example. There’s the requisite conversation about “just ‘giving up’ and becoming a Lesbian,” which should be profoundly offensive – homosexuality isn’t some last sexual redoubt before oblivion that we retreat to, bloodied failures at the red-in-tooth-and-claw merry-go-round of heterosexuality – but by now “Lesbianism-as-failure-as-woman” has been so overdone that even Eve Ensler can barely get annoyed by it. Jenny McCarthy picks her teeth and hits on a married man, then everyone slaps each other.

Cut to the friends going to retrieve the cameras. We need to talk about race for a second. Carmen Electra, who I believe is Hispanic, plays a white girl who acts like a stereotypical black girl. It’s incredibly offensive. George Wallace would be offended. Jefferson Davis, in whatever reincarnation he now inhabits, shudders and doesn’t know why whenever anyone watches this movie. She’s so offensive that I feel guilty for realizing what she’s doing. She has a gun, uses terrible grammar, and talks about how Rebecca should get pregnant “so she can get food stamps.” In this scene, she has on a tank top that says “got ho’s?” [sic] Frankly, I feel I should put [sic] after every mention of this character. Anyway, she and some generic small guy named John (I assumed he would be Standard Faggot, but he isn’t) go to pick up Rebecca’s cameras from G”H”G’s house. He pees on the guy’s sofa; she shits on his bed. G”H”G comes home and there’s an awkward confrontation where John kind of… lunges at G”H”G like he has a severe tic, but also wants a kiss.

Rebecca and Sex Doll go to Sex Doll’s audition for a commercial for a Safari Texas-style animal theme park. Some guy in the waiting room picks his nose and eats it. The guy next to him is rubbing his junk through his jeans. The next two men are looking at each other with longing, and the fifth one chats Rebecca up before sniffing her body and going into some kind of sexual frenzy, causing Rebecca to hallucinate that he is G”H”G and throttle him. Meanwhile, Sex Doll is setting them both up on a double date with the men she’s auditioning for, who are Jews.

Hep, hep. Jerusalem is lost. The Jews are about as offensive as the “black” girl, but aren’t played by as talented actors. When Sex Doll, Rebecca, and The Jews get to their date that night, the Jews writhe, mumble inaccurate Yiddish and writhe. If you ever wondered what a collaboration between Woody Allen and Leni Riefenstahl would look like if robbed of all artistic merit, look no further; otherwise, look away. Rebecca is wearing a dress with navel-deep cleavage, patterned in a Golden Girls stripe of aqua, purple, and navy. In a brief scene in the bathroom, there’s another little gem of humor as we learn that McCarthy failed genetics in high school. “These guys are one chromosome away from being Woody Allen!” They’re “one chromosome away” from being women. They’re “one chromosome away” from having Turner’s or Down syndrome. A chromosome… is not what she thinks it is. Ultimately, one of The Jews vomits down Rebecca’s exposed cleavage. Predictably, she reacts by screaming “Oh, my God” several times and tearing frantically at her dress, revealing both breasts. She’s tanned too much and they’re not at their best. Meanwhile, John tangles with a freakishly tall woman who is attracted to him. You know you’re grasping at straws when you think to yourself, “Oh, I hope that’s not Jenna Elfman standing on a cinderblock. I hope she didn’t have to do this.”

John and Rebecca go to a diner, where Rebecca cleans the Jew-vomit off her tits and John practices declaring his love for Rebecca. He starts off:

“Every single day, you teach me to be a better person, but for some reason you will not let someone love you the way you deserve to be loved.”

Twenty minutes ago, this woman was screaming mild blasphemies as she exposed her vomit-covered breasts to a crowd of onlookers. If this teaches him to be a better person, what the hell does he do at night?

Anyway, she misunderstands him, and after eating a sundae like a pig (the melted ice cream pouring down her chin is supposed to look like semen! GET IT? SEMEN!) she goes home with the man sitting on her other side. At his apartment, she goes on a drug trip. Why do shitty movies always include a drug trip, and why are they always so unrealistic? Hadn’t a single person on this crew ever genuinely taken drugs? Anyway, “tripping balls” she goes into the bedroom, and the guy has a frozen fish in his ass. He yells “touch my bass” a few times. Yeah, yeah. Freaks. We get it. Gooble, gobble. One of you. There’s a “coma montage” as she sleeps off the “ecstasy,” we see fish marks on her back indicating that she had wild, piscine sex with Touch My Bass. She announces that Aunt Flow came a little early, and – uh-oh! – there aren’t any tampons in the house!

Well, the minstrel show becomes a menstrual show. The reader who recommended this movie to me (fuck you, Michelle) did warn me that there was a scene where Jenny McCarthy has her period all over a supermarket, but I didn’t believe it until I saw it. It happens. Boy, does it happen. It’s a Vesuvius, a high-pressure blood-blast goregasm all over the Food Lion, a uterine flash flood that leaves Piggly Wiggly afloat in gore, a gynecological Hiroshima that darkens the white stones of Jerusalem and shatters the cedars of Lebanon. She Sloughs to Conquer. On the Last Day, when God’s wrath is given vent, the sun darkens and the seas run dry, there will ride forth four horsemen: War on a red horse, Pestilence on a white horse, Death on a pale hose, and Jenny McCarthy on a super-absorbent store-brand maxi pad.

Meanwhile, Sex Doll auditions for a commercial for herpes cream.

Around this point in the movie, Leni Riefenstahl died, and David Lynch took over. The “black” girl is some kind of beautician, apparently, and she’s waxing the legs of a (male) Hispanic magician who appears to have some low-level autism-spectrum disorder. Because she’s a bitch, she sets him up on a date with Rebecca. They go to a fancy restaurant, where the magician does some magic tricks and says several things that don’t make any sense. Rebecca goes to the ladies’ room, where she comforts a sobbing woman in a red dress. Punch and Judy Wait for Godot. Leaving the restaurant, they scuffle in the car over a magic wand (not the magician’s penis, an actual magic wand), and attract the attention of the police, who search the car and find plastic explosives. Do you think they have to be cavity-searched at the police station? Is the officer performing the search a dyke? If you said “yes,” congratulations. You’re a screenwriter, apparently. Rebecca gets locked up with a prostitute and opens her heart, which can’t but make the hooker uncomfortable. “You think you have problems. Try being a whore! Everyone wants you to have a heart of gold.”

At this point, David Lynch died, and someone’s cousin who did high school theater at a two-A high school in the Oklahoma Panhandle took over. It looks like time for a neat bad-movie all-wrapped-up ending, and it is, but it takes 25 minutes. Things start to “just happen” in the way they do in these movies. The most salient features of this plotless roundup are Jenny McCarthy shaving her pits and a cameo by SUM41. (Remember them? I didn’t.) It turns out, eventually, that the WHITE PONY that was so violently foreshadowed early refers to John’s white Pony brand sneaker. Jenny McCarthy falls down a couple of times and they walk off into the sunset, ready to live happily for the next 28 days until the lunar cycle once more triggers cervical Armageddon.

In the wake of my recent difficulties, I’m trying to look for the positive in this, and I’ve developed an interest in genealogy. McCarthy is a Scottish name, and I’m descended from McGees. I want to find out if our clans were ever at war, and if so, I’m going to raise the Highlands and burn her village to the ground.

Welcome back, Tulane Chris!

OOF. “SORR” about my absence, kids. It’s good to be back. Below follows a post I wrote before leaving but didn’t get a chance to send Meg before I left. (Spell-check informs me that “Meg” is a misspelling of “me.”) (Ed. Note: That's because I'll always be a part of you, Chris. Always.) (Ed. Note: Wait, I fucked that up. Technically, according to your spell-check, you'll always be a part of me. And if you managed to knock me up from Texas—I'm not even mad. That's just good work. SLASH, can you imagine the frighteningly pale, anti-social, half-ginger, quarter Jewish, alcoholic Aspie's baby we'd create? I just spent five minutes trying to write a joke about how he'd be born with a wedgie, but the punch line was always that his underwear snags on my vaginal wall and now I want to die. So, please, proceed with your blog post.)
Well, my years of wickedness and spite have come back to plague me, as they do every year. My college is hosting some Special Olympics events, one of which is a rally to “Remove the R-Word.” I will probably be burned in effigy, if not actually at the stake. (Although in five years, when people decide that “developmentally disabled” is hurtful, they’ll come for you, so live it up while you can.)
I’m bad at holidays. I always intend to do something, but then I don’t pay enough attention and they sneak up on me, and I wind up having to put birthday candles in a Wendy’s burger. I’m going to do Halloween right this year, though. I’m deciding on a costume now so I have a whole month to change my mind twice and then put it together. I believe Meg is going as Evie, which involves putting on a pair of cat ears and then sitting at home eating tuna and being a bitch. (Evie is recycling last year’s slutty nurse.) Here’s what I’m considering so far:
Quicksilver:
Photobucket
If physical limitations and public decency prevent you from dressing as your favorite comic book character, go as her twin brother. The silver hair and lightning-bolt shirt are probably doable with spray dye and fabric paint, although I’m not sure how I feel about the tights. Also, Quicksilver’s superpower is moving quickly, and I have the metabolism/energy level of a sloth. With chronic fatigue syndrome. And jetlag. Who’s getting over the flu. PS, I love that Wikipedia specifies that the Scarlet Witch is fictional. Really? Superpowers aside,
Photobucket
What people will say: “If you run so much, Speedy, why do you still have a beer gut?”

Bobby Budnick from Nickelodeon’s Salute Your Shorts:
Photobucket
I’ve got the coloring down, and I could get a bandanna and a beat-up guitar for about six bucks. Do you think anyone would get it, or would I have to have cards printed that read “You remember, ‘Salute Your Shorts?’ The Nickelodeon show about a summer camp run by the poor man’s Ernest P. Vorrell? It came on before ‘Hey, Dude?’”
Wow, looking for pictures of this actor has been… illuminating. Here he is sexying it up:
Photobucket
What People Would Say: “Are you, like… a young Willie Nelson?”

Amy Winehouse’s Guardian Angel: I thought of this just now and I’m sitting here giggling my ears off. The standard angel garb, but smeared with ash and stained with red wine, a halo askew on my bouffant? A tattoo that says “Katy Perry Eats Shit” across one wing? (Yeah, I know it was Lily Allen she had the feud with, but I hate Katy Perry more.) A heroin-craving Pete Doherty angel at my feet, weeping, twitching, and vomiting?
What People Will Say: “2008 called. They want their ironic pop-culture-reference costume back.”

A Baseball Fury from The Warriors:
Photobucket
Remember how wonderful the movie The Warriors is? A relic from a more naïve America, where eight men wearing jeans and leather vests with no shirts made viewers think of anything other than bad gay porn? It features Lynne (Motherfucking) Thigpen, later to become “The Chief” in “Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego,” as the relentlessly ominous deejay. What other actress can create a memorable role with eight lines and only a third of her face? Anyway, the Baseball Furies are one of the first gangs Da Wahriuhs encounter during the movie. They have face paint and little baseball uniforms that say “Furies” across the back!
What People Will Say: “I didn’t know Peter Criss coached Little League.”

Meg McBlogger:
Photobucket
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I know Meg wears other things – I’ve seen her do it – but my mental image of her will always be sunglasses, wedges, stretch pants, a long cardigan, and an ironic tank top. It suits her perfectly, sort of Tiffani-Amber Thiessen with an edge.
What People Will Say: “That’s the worst Tiffani-Amber Thiessen costume I’ve ever seen. Is this some kind of shitty blog thing? Is Meg going as Mario Lopez?”

Photobucket
I obviously love this idea most of all. I think I could pull this off with Vans, long cut-offs, an “Orlando Sound Machine” T-shirt and a little creatively applied eyeliner. I could carry a box of cupcakes and try to make out with a black guy, although that’s less “Halloween” than “Thursday” around here.
What People Will Say: “Good Lord, Chris, Vans? Are you going as high school? Couldn’t find any Doc Martens?”

So that’s what I’m thinking so far. I may save the Kevin Yang costume for the next reader gathering so more people will get it, and also so that if (GOD WILLING) the actual, factual Kevin Yang puts in an appearance we can do a double act called Yang As I Wanna Be. As a parting shot, here are my thoughts on two movies I watched this weekend:

Worst of Netflix Mini-Reviews
Martin: It’s a good thing George Romero started making zombie movies, because he can’t direct the living worth a damn. The only thing that moves in this 1974 snoozefest is the plaid wallpaper.
Dead-End Drive-In: What an odd choice to make a dystopian movie set in Australia, which is already a desert full of poisonous animals and televised cricket.

Valtrexia

Before we get to this week's T.G.I. Hagman and "Jersey Shore" recap, here are three things that have nothing to do with anything:

1.) I was running dangerously low on dishwasher detergent last night, so I squirted dish soap all over the dishes to make up for it, and I may have gone a wee bit overboard:
Photobucket

That's obviously just soap that overflowed from the dishwasher into my sink, but it also kind of looks like a big 'ole mess of ejaculate. Because I'm "feisty" and I like to "razz" my roommates (ask Ex-Co Blogger Chris about the time I gave him a back rub with icy hot because I couldn't find any lotion and was kind of curious to see what would happen. HA HA. Me.), I took a picture and tried to tweet, "kicked @dankoe out because I came home and he was jerking off into the sink. guess he's Y bound again," but our stolen whorish Internet went out for half the night and cockblocked my joke. Which was frustrating. So I'm telling you now. Dan came in the sink. Except you already know it's soap. So...Yeah. This didn't really turn out how I planned.

2.) The following is a banner ad that's always on Hulu:

Photobucket

Just like how I can't look at the logo for the show "10 Things I Hate About You" and not see "10 Things I Hate About Iraq", I can't look at that banner ad and not see "SHAVE A KID WITH CANCER!" Every single time. And every single time I think, "Well that seems a bit off-color. But not completely un-fun..." until I realize what it actually says and feel like an asshole for entertaining the thought of hog-tying a kid with cancer down and shearing him like a lamb because a banner ad told me to. The power of suggestion...

and 3.) Speaking of grossly misreading things, Laura wrote me a check last week for some of the camping necessities I bought (i.e.: Hat and beer) and I put it on the fridge without reading it and walked away. A few days ago I went to get something out of the freezer, saw it and completely thought that she wrote the amount as "forty dollars and no cunts."
Photobucket

And the disturbing thing is, when I misread it, I didn't think it was odd at all. I was like, "HA HA, Laura. That minx," and walked away. Embarrassingly, it took days until it clicked that it seems slightly out of character for Laura to write "cunts" on anything, nevertheless something both of our banks are going to see. And that's when I realized that it says "cents". And that's when I called my mom to confirm that she didn't drink when I was in the womb. And that's when I got her voicemail, so it's still anyone's guess. And that's when you diagnosed me with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. And that's when I respected your medical opinion.

Speaking of alcohol, I believe it's time to check in with America's favorite 79-year-old bourbon juggernaut. It's T.G.I. Hagman!

Photobucket

As of 4:28am on October 15, 2010, Larry Hagman is...alive! And dying to hear about what happened on last night's episode of Jersey Shore, so let's get to it, shall we?

As I'm sure we all remember, last week The Situation was being, as Pauly D puts it, really "negative" and "sour". Meaning he was grouchy and grumpy and, you know, blatantly hit Snooki in the face because she didn't want to leave the clerb when he did. Just average actions of someone with a casual case of the Mondays. To make amends, The Situation goes into Snooki's room the next morning, gives her a quick dry hump and begs for her forgiveness, which she begrudgingly gives him. Did anyone else notice that The Situation had a giant wad of cash in his hand during the entirety of this scene? Look Mike Sorrentino, the whole world knows you made 5 million dollars this year, I don't think you need to walk around with giant wads of cash in your front paws at all times to prove it. It's a bit gouche, don't you think? I'm going to start walking around town with giant fistfuls of nickels and quinoa rice and see where that gets me. Fake it until you make it, sister. Fake it until you make it.

Snooki's best friend, Ryder, who's been in town goes home and Snooki is the saddest girl in Sad Town about it. She goes out to the patio and cries hysterically and confides in J-WOWW that she wants to leave early because she misses her friends and family and people who are real. Even though at this point they have like two days left in the house or something equally ridiculous. Not that I'm judging. I'm not saying I'd pass up an opportunity to be snuggling with Talia right now (especially since as someone in yesterday's comments pointed out, she's got a shape to her) (slash you shut that fast mouth of yours, that's my Facebook wife we're talking about.) (Slash it's been a while, Talia; wouldn't hate a poke...) (And that's Facebook lingo, mom. I haven't moved on from Anna to Talia. Despite the DC/South Korea thing, we're still going strong, a-thank you.), I'm just saying you get paid $10,000 per episode. Frame a picture, think of the money and power through for 48 hours.

To cheer Snooki up, the house decides to go to Space that night. Space is apparently the closest thing Miami has to an authentic New York style club. It's got gorillas and juice heads and tan girls and tiny nets for genital crabs and good drinks and stays open crazy late. The gang is pumped because everyone's been dying to go there, which begs the question why didn't they just go there one of the 5,000 other nights they went to Bed or Tantra? But again, why I'm still trying to suss out logic in this show is beyond me. They head to Space at 1 (which prompted me to yell, "A.M.?!?!?!" and feel like a giant loser because by that time I'm usually drunk and in bed with a gyro or asleep) and everything is fine for a few hours, until Snooki gets in a fight with two random girls sitting next to her on a couch. I would love to tell you what happened, but your guess is as good as mine. I don't think even MTV knows what happened. And nobody really tries to explain what happened or fill in any of the missing information gaps. For the amount of willing suspension of disbelief that's involved with this show, you'd think it would be some avant garde art house shit instead of a reality show with a lazy mic job on a creed of people with whom things escalate quickly. Christ.

Mid-fight, The Situation jumps in and tells one of the random ho's guy friends to leave and "bring your bitch with you." At that point, the shit hits the fan (or "hit shits the fan," as I wrote in my notes because if this post illustrates anything, it's that I have severe dyslexia,) and they all get kicked out of the clerb. It's "only" 3am though, so everyone moves on to a different clerb, except for The Situation and Pauly D who grab two scantily clad ladies on their way out and go home to [shudder, shudder] "get it in".

Pauly D's girl is DTF but, as seems to be becoming a pattern, The Situation's girl just wants to braid each other's hair, get hopped up on Pepsi and play Mall Madness all night. Which doesn't sound completely horrible to me frankly, but The Situation has zero time for girls who aren't DTF. Upon finding out that his girl doesn't drink or hook up with people and has only had sex with one guy, he uses his mouth to pick her up by the scruff of her neck, walks her outside the den, drops her, nudges some courtesy gazelle meat her way with his nose, and saunters back into his room for a mighty lion nap. Slightly mortified by the treatment of her friend, Pauly D's girl excuses herself and leaves too, even though she was totally DTF. Soooo...sucks for Pauly D.

The next day Mike retells this story to J-WOWW, but in his version, his girl was a total grenade so he just had to kick her out and he gave Pauly D's girl the boot too because he's just such a player like that. Lying to cover up your own rejection on reality television is a...unique decision, I guess. I don't think I'd go that way personally, but then again, I'm the one with nickels and quinoa rice and not 5 million dollars, so hey. Go with god.

That night, Mike cooks chicken parm for Sunday night family dinner, burns the chicken and ends up setting the fire alarm off when he puts a hot pan under cold water. The fire department comes and Snooki and J-WOWW are excited because they get to oogle "prime meat of men". The firemen kind of open a few windows and wave a few magazines around while trying to talk to the cast as little as humanly possible and eventually leave them to their dinner.

After dinner, they're all sitting around talking about exotic looking girls when Sammi says that she thinks she looks exotic. Ronnie agrees and says, "You look Asian; I like it." And Oooo0o0o0o is he in for it! Because his ex-girlfriend is Asian and now Sammi thinks he's only dating her because she looks like his ex-girlfriend. Normally I'd gloss right over this because I'd rather gnaw off one of my talons than dissect any more of the Ronnie/Sammi/"Everyone Loves Raymond" plot line, but it did spawn this conversation between Dan and Laura, with whom I was watching this:

Dan: Laura, have you ever hooked up with an Asian before? Or like, had a trsyt?

Laura: [after 15 solid seconds of thought] I hooked up with a German once?

D: Oh. So, the opposite of an Asian.

...It just really hit the spot for me.

This week's comic relief: The boys go tanning and their car gets towed because The Situation thinks it's acceptable to slap one of those "Ocean City, Maryland — PARKING FOR THE SITUATION ONLY!" signs that you get on the boardwalk when you're 12 onto the real parking sign and call it a day. But then he goes and picks up his Escalade and pulls $170 in cash out of his pocket and that's the end of that, whereas if this were me, there would have been a lot more public crying, phone calls to my parents and money wiring involved. So, again, nickels and quinoa rice.

That night nobody feels like going out except for the boys who head to Tantra. There, Pauly D and The Situation meet two girls from "Canadia" who walk up to them and are like, "Hi, can we have sex with you to be on TV for a hot minute?" And the boys are like, "CAN YOU!" and head back to the house. Unfortunately once in bed, yet again, Pauly D's girl is DTF while The Situation's just wants to polish her chastity belt and talk about her fiance. Instead of being a good wingman and entertaining her so Pauly D can bang out his girl right quick, The Situation yells at her for wasting his time, kicks her out, and she gets so upset that Pauly D's girl goes too, leaving him with blue balls. Pauly D thinks he's going to need to have a talk with The Situation about what it means to be a good wingman. Sometime. In the near future, maybe. If there's time. And then the episode just kind of...ends.

FIN.

Welp, that's going to do it for us this week at 2b1b. As always, thank you so much for reading, forwarding to your friends, following us on Twitter, joining the Facebook page, emailing and all of those wonderful things that you do. We really appreciate it. Have a great weekend and we'll see you right back here Monday morning. Buh-bye.

You Know What Ruffles My Feathers?: The "Let it Go" Edition

The story I'm about to tell you would be included in my list of all-time grudges, except it's not really a grudge against one specific person. It's a grudge against an entire situation. It's a situational grudge, if you will. But that doesn't mean I'm going going to tell it. Ha ha, no sir. Because much like my all-time grudges or my little Rosh Hashanah rant, I jump at the opportunity to tell this to anyone or anything that will listen to me. I should really make a seperate list of "Things I Can Not Let Go Despite a Good Amount of Time Passing and It Not Really Being That Big of a Deal in The First Place" (or my TICNLGDAGAOFPAINRBTBOADITFP list, if you will.) This would be its star. Either way, go get some coffee. Sit down. Get comfortable. Like always, it's going to be a long and semi-pointless one.

Our story begins freshman year of high school in first period Spanish class. Sitting diagonally from me was Talia, sitting behind me was Eileen (who, for the record, was even bitchier first thing in the morning than I was, but that's neither here nor there) and sitting next to me was Steve Nardone. Oh, man. Steve Nardone, you guys. It is now widely accepted that Steve Nardone was one of the hottest guys in our class, but back then he was just some quiet schmo who flew under the radar. And the thing is, nothing physically changed about him from freshman to senior year. It's not like he lost a considerable amount of weight or stopped wearing Insane Clown Posse makeup to school or anything; he looked exactly the same on graduation day as he did that first day of Spanish class, freshman year. So what changed? Well, I don't want to say it was my crush on Steve Nardone that made all the difference, and yet, that's actually exactly what I'm going to say. Because that's exactly what this post is about. I openly had a crush on Steve Nardone first semester of freshman year and suddenly so did the rest of the world and I got zero credit for it. BOOM. There it is. And it still ruffles my feathers.

[TIME OUT: I wrote most of this post last week when I got home from dinner with Talia and Jill and I was all fired up because we randomly discussed Steve Nardone and I had "had a few chardonnays", if you will. So, I wrote this, it's based on an experience that I really had, and yet when I re-read it tonight to edit, I was like, "YEAH!!! THAT WAS IRRITATING. GOD, GOOD POINT, MEG," and completely re-fired myself up until I was ranting and raving at Dan while he ignored me and dicked around on Facebook and flossed his teeth. So what I'm trying to say is, if this sucks because it's oddly specific to my high school experience and I wrote it kind of drunk, at least I know one person will appreciate it: Me. God bless and proceed.]

I have the most absurdly vivid memory of being all zipped up in my little sleeping bag on the floor at a field hockey sleepover and being like, "TEE- HEE! Man, that Steve Nardone kid is so nice and stupid cute. Do you think he'd go to Homecoming with me?" And do you know what happpened? I got laughed at. LAUGHED AT. Everyone was like, "Steve Nardone? What's a Steve Nardone? Who's that? He's quiet. I don't know who that is, blah blah blah, let's run sprints," and I was like, "Oh. OK. I'll just go back to making this lanyard out of gimp and wishing I ran an 8-minute mile instead of 15 so I could fit in with you people [weave, weave, weave]." And then not four months later, the entire world had a crush on Steve Nardone. And continued to do so until we graduated! He was like, The Unnatainable Steve Nardone. And who was I? Meg. Just Meg, who sat in the corner and occasionally said snarky things and drove a Mazda Protege named Pedro. That was me.

And you know the worst part? I went to Homecoming sophomore year with Steve Nardone's stepbrother, except I had no idea that they were related. Thus, when I called their house (because it was 1999 and only Zack Morris and drug dealers had cell phones,) I thought Steve was my date's dad and the results were just horrible.

[Ring, ring]

Steve Nardone: Hello?

M: Hi, may I please speak to Danny?

S: He's not here right now, can I take a message?

M: Sure, can you just have him call Meg whenever he gets a chance?

S: Oh, hey Meg, it's Steve! [TIME OUT: OK, so again, I had no idea they were stepbrothers. Apparently this was, and is, common knowledge, but may I remind you that I only just found out that narwhals are real, so let's all lower the bar a little. And when he said his name was Steve, a.k.a. the International Dad and/or Stepdad Name, I just assumed my date mentioned we were going to Homecoming and his dad was being really friendly and engaging.]

M: Oh. Uh. Hi, sir.

..."OH. UH. HI, SIR." GAAAAAHHHHHHHHHJJJJJjjjjjesus Christ. I called him sir. Of course once I put everything together and realized that I was talking to fucking Steve Nardone, I wanted to set myself on fire for having said that. Like sometimes I'll just be driving down the road, randomly remember it, and want to crash my car into the median. And the thing is, I'm sure he has no recollection of this conversation ever happening, yet I'm going to have it engraved on my tombstone with an artistic etching of me holding my head in my hand and looking really disappointed, under the line, "Here lies Meghan Catherine McBlogger. She........well, she tried real hard." College Roommate Danielle went through this really irritating phase of purposely remembering the most embarrassing moments of her life when she was bored and detailing them to me, which obviously drove me crazy because then I'd have to browse the extensive library that is all of my most embarrassing moments. It was evil. She'd text me when I was in class and be like, "I'm remembering something so mortifying!" and I'd be like GOD DAMNIT I CALLED STEVE NARDONE SIR!!1 and die all over again, except this time in the middle of an art history class or something equally worthless in the long run.

S: How are you doing? Excited for Homecoming?

M: Yeah! Totally! [wanting to get off the phone as soon as humanly possible because your "son" and I are going to Homecoming together, not adopting a Korean baby] OK, well if you could just tell Danny to call me when he gets back in, that would be great. Thank you! Bye! [click.]

GAHHHHHHHHHHH. I had Steve Nardone on the phone, he was engaged, he knew who I was, this was before the entire world had a crush on him so his standards were probably pretty low, and I rushed to get off the phone with him because I'm a little bit Aspie's and didn't want to talk to someone's dad. FAILURE.

And guess what Steve Nardone does now? He's a SURFER/MODEL/PHOTOGRAPHER. I've ascertained from various Facebook pictures and not his resume, which I've never seen before and is probably more accurate than Facebook, for the record, that he's done some amateur SURFING/MODELING/PHOTOGRAPHING at some point in his life. I am 100% not kidding. About that ascertation. And in 1999, when I had the balls to be like, "hey, that kid's got a shape to him," everyone acted like I was crazy. And I'm more than I aware that I graduated seven years ago and there are more important things for me to be upset about, but I can not physically let this go. And it's not an issue of like, "ohhh, I missed out on my shot with Steve Nardone," because, whatever. I wouldn't have known what to do with that shot if it walked up with a top hat, monocle, and youtube video instructions and let's not pretend like I would. It's an issue of I was right and I want credit for it. I had the first crush on him and every other girl who had a crush after me (and there were many) didn't have to deal with the same shit that I did. I paved the way. I'm the Rosa Parks of Steve Nardone crushes. Where's my PBS special? Where's my middle school?

So now, much like with Rosh Hashanah, everytime someone mentions Steve Nardone, I'm like, "WELL LET ME TELL YOU A STORY" and go into the whole shpeal whether that person wants to hear it or not. (And most times, the answer is not.) Because I demand recognition. The following conversation actually happened at dinner the other night when Steve Nardone was brought up:

Talia: Remember how you were the first person to have a crush on him freshman year and then everyone else did and he could have the pick of any girl in the school?

M: Yes, thank you. I remember.

T: You really did pave the way.

M: [puts fajita down and looks at Talia directly in the soul] Say it again.

T: What?

M: Say that I was the first and paved the way.

T: But I just did.

M: Well say it again. I need to hear it again.

T: Uh, you were the first person to have a crush on Steve Nardone.

M: And I...........?

T: ...Paved the way.

M: Now say he owes his entire high school happiness to me.

T: ...I'm not entirely sur—

M: SAY IT.

T: He, 'owes his entire high school happiness to you.'

M: Now say that he owes at least 99.9% of his current life success to me.

T: Yes Meg. Steve Nardone owes 99.9% of his current life success to you.

And then I proceeded to get drunker on strawberry margaritas like a jaded, middle-aged divorcée because the only slashes that separate my job title are between blogger, unemployed, and gastrointestinal problems. Christ.
